Creating custom cards

Hello everyone!

I started with the miniatures game some time ago and finally found your awesome board.
Seeing all your beautiful custom ABC and character cards I am curious to know how you make them. I myself used the MS Publisher for some Cards, but the are nothing compared to your custom cards..

Hey man. Welcome to the forums! The best people to talk to about the card templates are theblackabbot and unpluggamer. I'm not sure what program they use, nut they do excellent, very accurate work. If you have any other questions let us know!

Welcome Bhrian, I made some death knight ABC by using Photoshop to clean up all the text (clone stamp tool), putting in new text and new picture. But Theblackabbot is the real pro when he make Grom Hellscream from cards template with all the layers. I think we both use Photoshop.. the program basically can do everything you want with the pixel.

So you don't use the Magic Set Editor or similar tools?
I tried to clean a Card via paint.net and my result isn't half as good as yours, maybe I should switch to Photoshop..

I've never tried Magic Set Editor or paint.net; so I have no experience to compare.. I should try when I have some free time.

The Magic set editor is able to create custom cards for Magic, the WoW TCG and other tcg, but as far as i read the comments on their website(I don't have a link, but google is your friend here) it is quite complex to code the templates. Once these templates are created, the construction of new cards should be done in a couple of minutes..

Btw, thank you NosFurOught2 for finding what seems to be the right font, though i still haven't tried it.

I plan an overhaul of the Vassal mod, so you all, don't go too far

I use Franklin Gothic Medium font for the death knight ABC. I should post these cards shortly..

Gimp is a good photo editing tool comparable to Photoshop as far as I'm concerned and it's an open-source project. It ought to accept the Photoshop files and properly interpret the layers even. Just a thought. And a Vassal add-on?... man, it's been a WHILE since I've worked on anything for that mod. Let me know if you have any questions about the mod or add-ons. Back to the shadows until then...

There are fonts included in the templates pack but i'll soon update them with those found by NosFurOught2 (SG Belwe). Stay tuned~

I've never tried Gimp myself but it does sound like a good alternative.

Since the game died, i've twiddled with Vassal some more and made a few mods (mostly card games but currently working on a Dreamblade one). There's a few points i'd like to see improved in the WoWminis mod. The better it looks, the higher chance of sparkling players interest. If you want to help, you're welcome to join in.

I used to work on the Vassal mod. I put together the random booster generator and helped with some of the other graphics and such. I never use it anymore, but am willing to help if any is needed. You'll find me in the shadows....

Ah yes, i remember you, Blackbloc and that other guy who made the cool dice for the mod. I'm currently finishing one for a pal but once it's done i'll start sketching a new mod for the game. It will basically be the same but with enhanced graphics and added functionality.

Plus, i'd like to add a custom set expansion. So if anyone wants to start working on that~

I would love to see custom cards in VASSAL. Someone made an entire set of Alliance, Horde, and Monster cards with ABCs that was, and I quote, "inspired greatly by the never-released 3rd set." I have this whole set of cards and ABCs if someone could get them into VASSAL.

The person that made the dice was Qwerty. He and I were the first people to test the dice - I remember when he was making them, he set them to be all Crits and that was funny.

I think with a whole new set of cards in there with ABCs, people would want to play again. I certainly would. I just don't have any idea how to make changes to the mod or I would.

See if this works. This is the set that was greatly influenced by the unreleased 3rd set. The Attachments are actually the ABCs.

the cards are great! especially there are some characters totally outside the box. I would give it a try asap.
